It’s been a tough week in this house.
First day of high school did not go smoothly as hoped. It got all settled but it still put a damper on things. Second day was MUCH better and she now LOVES high school. Phew!! Added to that stress, my girl found out her best friend Simon’s little brother Nolan passed away in a freak accident while camping with his dad. It was AWFUL. Simon and Julie spent a lot of time on Skype and she just listened while he cried and tried to ease his hurt a little. He went to the first day of school and she was there to give him bear hugs and help him out as much as she could.
Yesterday was Nolan’s funeral. She wanted to be there to show her support for her buddy. The funeral was packed. We got seating outside on the basketball court and I was there just to help her grieve and hand out Kleenex. She was having some trouble getting herself together in time to go back to school. She toughened up a little and went back to school to participate in the festivities the high school had planned for the Grade 9′s to meet their fellow classmates. There were motivational speakers to help them make a smooth adjustment to their new surroundings. There were plenty of games, a pasta alfredo dinner and the evening finished off with a huge bonfire. It was a long ass day but for her it was made better when a relative brought Simon back to school after the funeral so he could participate as well. I think being with his friends would have done wonders for his heart as well. At one point I got a text from my daughter telling me about her evening and a picture of she and Simon wrestling for her hat. For a short time they weren’t hurting, they were just being best friends and having fun.
Today we are being laid back. I have a pot roast in the crock pot which smells wonderful. An apple pie may be in order as well. The child is enjoying sleeping in. A few errands have to be done this afternoon but nothing earth shattering. Later this evening we are going to a bonfire at a friend’s. The lads are jamming so it will be a great time being out in the crisp fall night air, listening to them do some great Led Zeppelin tunes.
Happy in the face me!!
Have a great weekend folks!!
