Grab bag, a freebie and Red Velvet

Posted on 29th April 2011 in Chattin', Friday Free-For-All

Sorry I am sooo late with today’s post but I didn’t have power until this afternoon. It was down 30 hours in total after Mother Nature’s little wind storm/tornado yesterday. The animals and I were huddled in the kitchen. A 65 pound dog sitting in my lap shaking like  a leaf (he has a really bony arse too)with two black cats pasted to my sides. It sounded like a train coming through the house. Every time a tree branch would break off and ping against the house, the animals would jump.Power went out yesterday morning and didn’t come back on until 3 this afternoon only to go back out an hour later for another hour. It’s up for now but I’m not sure for how long as the power company is still working on the lines down the road. Our road was closed yesterday when the wind flipped a transport onto the driver’s side pinning the guy inside. They opened the road a few hours later after they removed the driver, the truck and cleaned up the mess. Trees are down all over the place and hydro poles have snapped. There is some damage to our roof and our neighbor’s roof as well. Our other neighbor lost his picture window and has considerable roof damage. Tomorrow Steve has 3 roofs to repair before he goes to watch the UFC fight.

As scary as yesterday was I still had to drive in it. The night before I had Julie in the ER with an ear infection and I had a prescription that had to be filled. Over 9000 homes in our county were without power which also meant the 3 local pharmacies had no power. I called later in the afternoon and they JUST got power back but weren’t taking any prescriptions. Sooooo….off I go in my little truck (piece of shit), pick up Julie (because I didn’t want her in the school bus with 70 mph winds. Off we go to Caledonia to get her prescription and to go to McGag ‘n Retch for food and then to Hagersville to her baseball practice. We waited there for over 2 hours before discovering the practice had been cancelled so we had to drive back home in the wind. Was I amused? No. Scared shitless was more like it. I could feel the truck lifting and rocking and my knuckles were freakin’ WHITE. We get home to a dark house, hubby gets home late .

This morning I was woken up at 4 am by the sound of the hubby firing up the generator to get the furnace going (house went down to 65F. Brrr). He also plugged in the TV and the coffee machine so I could have coffee and watch the wedding before having to go to the city this morning to see the periodontist. I got to watch everything but the kiss before I had to leave. A shower would have been better though. Trust me on this…ROFL~!

Miss LouCee has been keeping me hopping man… :P She has returned to Digiridoo and has a killer new CU grab bag out!

Holy hell is this a gorgeous bag. Seven products for $5!!…I had hoped to play with it the other night but I was at the hospital with Julz and then Mother Nature decided to mess with the planet yesterday… Full reveal in store. Treat yourself. It is fabulous!!!!!

Ro…I cannot BEGIN to tell you how much you made my day today!!! I got your parcel today!!!! Red Velvet cake mixes (can’t get them up here) and a GORgeous bookmark! Thank you soooo much! Julie is dying to get baking the cake tomorrow and I’m dying to eat it. ROFL!! I will admit Julie was super excited about the bubble wrap too. She amuses so easily. :P

No longer available.

That’s it for me for this weekend. The power is still on so I’m going to take the chance to pour a hot bubble bath while the getting is good and have a good soak/scrub with a  glass of chocolate liqueur and some candles (just in case). Have an awesome weekend!!

It’s wonderful to read you are safe (I hope all the birds are too!). We don’t get tornadoes here in NZ and I’m so glad about that, what I read in the newspaper this morning was so scary.

Thanks so much for this entire kit :D I can finally unzip it now! (I’m weird, I never unzip daily download type things till I have every download :P )

Wow… What an adventure! Sounds like us when we had Hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne back to back in ’04! We had tornados then but fortunately have only had watches and warnings since then. I am having 2 trees down next week because they are trouble waiting to happen. I’m sooooo glad you are all safe and sound! Some wild weather lately. It has been HOT as HE double toothpicks here… ugggggghhhhh… in the freakin ’90s!

I couldn’t get up to watch the wedding… I need my sleep but I have been watching all the highlights and think they are such a wonderful couple…. so glad everything went perfectly for them. I wish Diana had been there to watch her Baby Boy all grown-up and marrying the woman he loves! That made me cry… oh well, what a sap!

    Have a great weekend! ;)

Wow! Those storms sound like they were awful. And driving in them must have royally sucked. I’m glad you’re ok though. UFC rocks!!

    thanks.

I am so glad that you are all okay – albeit with some damaged roofs. Tornadoes are scary!

Hope your weekend is ALOT less eventful! We missed all but the rain this time around, wished we missed the rain too but no such luck. If the rain doesn’t stop around here soon I’m moving the canoe out of the garage and parking right by the back door! Thanks for the Freebie! That was so nice of your hubby to make sure you could watch the Wedding, I saw all but the kiss too (thanks ABC for streaming on-line), had to actually do some of my job right when they did the kiss but caught it on the re-play, aint technology great! Glad you guys are all safe, make sure hubby is safe doing all the roof repairs!

So glad you finally got the package…I was beginning to worry, and I’m so glad Julie liked the bubble wrap, LOLOLOL!!
Sounds like an interesting couple of days you’ve had…we’re pretty lucky here, mostly just earthquakes and volcanoes…and rain, lots and lots and lots of rain…tho we do get the occasional windstorm, no tornados to speak of. I stayed up all night for the Royal Wedding…just to watch history while it happens, I guess…but it was awesome.
Enjoy the cake, and keep us posted on how you are…we worry, you know!

Thank you for the great kit…Now I can put them together. I watches all 6 hours of the wedding while it happened on CNN. The first kiss was a quick peck the second one was better. The news here is not stating things right, its getting on my nerves…I hate false statements…Sorry about your house, hope you have a better weekend with power.

So glad to hear you and your family are OK!! Just when you thought you were all settled back in from your holiday. . . . I think I would have chickened out on the drive home, and found a hotel room. I hate the wind at the best of times, but a tornado? You would not find me out in it! I hope your deer and eagles are OK too. The wild weather is really hard on the wildlife.

Thank you so much for the kit!!

  10. Berniek says:

Thank you so much for this wonderful free kit you have given away!
    I will revisit many more!

Oh wow! I’m so happy you decided you add my layout to your blog. :D Thank you and thank you for the whole kit. It’s so beautiful. Can’t wait to use more of it.

I’m glad you are safe after the tornado hit. I’ve been hearing about those a lot lately. And it was nice of your husband set up the TV again so you could watch the wedding. I’m sure they’ll repeat it again and again over the news for at least a few days. And then there’s always youtube! :P Look for the royal wedding channel. They were supposed to be broadcasting it live yesterday.

  12. makeyesup says:

Glad to hear that you were able to get through that turmoil safely. Can’t even imagine how scared you and your family were. There has been so much saddness with weather related ocurrences, it’s unbelievable. Have a great weekend now and thank the dear Lord for keeping you all safe.

  13. DoggiNo says:

That must have been a horrible experience. Glad you’re all ok.
Thanks so much for the freebie kit. Love it !

  14. Dawn says:

Thanks for this last piece – beautiful kit! SO glad you were all ok. I hate driving full stop so driving in such a storm would be beyond me I am sure!! We watched ALL the wedding coverage here in the UK and had a beautiful village party with the wedding on big screens. Adorable.

  15. Valj says:

Holey Moley, you’ve had a hairy time out there! But happy to know you survived all that. It’s pretty hot at our end and we were happy when we had a (much too brief) rain shower over lunch today. Thanks for all of the stuff you’ve shared Kristine, much appreciated!

  20. Hey Girl, glad to hear your not a tree limb! A tip from tornado alley, USA. Stay out of the kitchen, too much sharp stuff to fly about if your house breaches. Small rooms or closets at the center of the house are best. Bathrooms not on an exterior wall are even better. Go to your bathroom and grab a blanket and a pillow for your bum-bum, climb into the tub. If you have a twin mattress drag that into the bathroom to pull over you and the pets if the roof breaches. Did I scare you? Hope not. Kind of common around here so most folks are pretty “Meh” about tornadoes. We still freak the Hell out, though. Never get used to hail lashing the house. This guy I know, fixes himself a sandwich, grabs a litre of Pepsi, a flashlight and his weather radio and hangs out in the bathroom with his labrador for a few hours. He makes it sound like a vacation. Its the only time he lets “Piston the Lab” drink from the toilet! *Mirth*

Love and Kisses, glad to hear Steve knows what’s important..you, coffee and royal weddings.

    Bean.
